PATIENT TRAVEL FROM ISLAY
What You Need to Know
Travelling for health and social care on Islay can be difficult and time consuming. Journeys off the island for clinics at Lochgilphead, Campbeltown, Oban and Glasgow are very challenging, particularly when you are not feeling well. It all adds to the stress and the cost of looking after your health.
We currently have three projects which we hope will make things easier.
ISLAY JOURNEYS FOR HEALTH AND WELLBEING
PATIENT TRAVEL FROM ISLAY : WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Each of these projects has its own page on the website
PATIENT TRAVEL FROM ISLAY : WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Working collaboratively with our sister charity Cancer Support Group Islay (CSGI) we have put together a comprehensive leaflet of up to date advice to help you organise your health and wellbeing journeys to the mainland.
We have included information about how to book your ferry or flight, what to look out for on the journey, what you need to do about your travel documentation at the hospital, how to cope with the return journey and what to do if things go wrong.
We hope that the advice will make the journey a little easier to understand and plan and that it will complement the professional help and support that you will receive from the Patient Travel Team at Islay Hospital, from Islay Airport and LoganAir, from the CalMac port and ferry staff, from Glasgow Airport and from the NHS Hospital or Clinic where you will be receiving treatment.
You can read the leaflet in the reading pane below or pick up a printed copy at the doctor’s and dentist’s surgeries, at Islay Hospital, at Islay Pharmacy and at the ferry ports and the airport.
Your feedback is very important in making sure that the advice is up to date and accurate. If you spot anything missing or wrong please let us know using the feedback form on our survey page and we will do our best to put it right.
And if you need help with transport don’t forget to get in touch with Rona at Islay Transport Volunteers – we might be able to give you a lift.
